Retrospective Exhibition 2000 – 2020 Born in 1982 in Queens, New York, Royal Hartwell Hair, known professionally as Jerkface is a New York based fine artist. Jerkface attended the School of Visual Arts for fine art and advertising, where he took a major interest in cubism. He dropped out before receiving a degree. Not soon after he was incarcerated for a street fight and spent several years in prison. During this time of isolation he refined his style and techniques to emerge as one of the leading underground contemporary artists of today. Manipulating preconceived notions of form into new & compelling visual narratives, his paintings become sophisticated meditations on color and movement imbued with all the emotion, energy, and unbridled optimism of youth. The motion that is created from balancing color through repetition, in turn, creates the energetic patterns that is the very essence of Jerkface’ style.
